Energy systems engineering at KET: Holistic concepts for sustainable energy utilisation

Our round-up of the departments and chairs involved in the KET continues today with the Department of Energy Systems Technology (EST), which has been a member of the KET since 2020 and is headed by Professor Henning Meschede.

Based on local #energy needs and the possibilities of energy conversion and distribution, the scientists at EST research, develop and realise holistic concepts for sustainable energy use. The cross-sectoral research work deals with #regional energy systems and networks with a focus on, among other things, the #energy transition in industry and the space heating transition.

Methodologically, #modelling, #simulation and #optimisation of energy systems, from the industrial process level to residential districts and holistic regional mapping, are used. Conceptually, the direct and indirect #electrification of areas not previously supplied with electricity and the associated #sector coupling are key components.

The research results are implemented in numerous projects with partners from industry, e.g. Re2Pli, Climate bOWL, HeatTransPlan, dynOpt-San, FlexLabQuartier, DC2Heat and ESN4NW.
